Bioavailability of Emulsified Fish Oil

Here’s a report from sciencedirect about the Bioavailability of Fish oil.

The report is about Coromega Fish Oil – this is an emulsified fish oil. The study finds that both EPA and DHA  from emulsified fish oil increased bioavailability of omega-3 fatty acids with enhanced area under the curve (AUC) through 8 hours. The AUC (% FFA x min) was statistically significant for total omega-3 fatty acids (emulsified FO vs. parent FO, respectively) – this means that emulsified fish oil had a 300% higher absorbtion rate 8 hours into the test.  The study also states that the test subjects  ”…reported no tolerance problems with the emulsified lipid preparation compared to mild reports of “fishy burp” with the capsular triglyceride.”

Emulsified fish oil is made to be water soluable – this provides more surface are for your body to absorb or digest the oil.

Nutrition Journal also has another study about the same subject.

Coromega and Twinlabs are two of the fish oils on the market sold in emulsified form.
