What is a good fish oil dosage?
Fish oil dosage depends on the Omega 3 Fatty Acid Concentration. If the Oil is 50% Omega 3 concentrated, 2000 mg for an adult and half of that for a child is suggested. When you start taking the Fish Oil, start with a lower dosage and see how it affects you. However, the best advice is to consult with your health care provider to determine your required dosage depending on your health condition.
That would mean a sum total of 1000 mg of EPA+DHA.
Fish oil contains DHA and EPA. DHA can be converted into EPA if the body requires but the opposite of that is not so easy, therefore the amount of DHA is what would determine the dosage needed. The more the DHA concentration, the less fish oil you will need. We are advised not to eat too much of a single species over the course of a month, because of mercury and PCB contamination. But, if we don't eat some fish every day, we don't get any DHA.
To avoid having to deal with after taste or burping, always buy your fish oil from a company that has prepared it in a manner to remove contaminants and to guarantee the fish is fresh and pure. A pure supplement must go through a process called molecular distillation to remove all contaminants from its fish giving you the purest supplement available today.
